Did you know?

by FunkyFarmer @ 2007-10-22 - 11:36:27

Your local garden thrushes may well be joined by some continental visitors this month. Fieldfares and redwings are arriving for winter, and large numbers of song thrushes and blackbirds are arriving from Europe too.

So get your feeders out and topped up. Your garden birds need all the help they can get over winter.

Hello Irish I have been a very busy bee over the summer

At the risk of getting even more smutty replies... I've got fat balls! 8| :))

Is that a medical complaint? Or maybe it's you boasting???

Well, you know, you have to get your fat balls out for the tits in winter! :))

trouble with fat balls is that they tend to drip all over, and seeds fall out : )

That's true.... Other birds often pick the fallen seeds up though.

but it is quite a job removing those fat stains ; )

A nice hot iron and some blotting paper usually works... 8|

Probably just as well really. :))

Fat balls?

Please tell me all about your fat balls.

*sits in the chair*

Thank you FF, I shall watch over the songbirds and blackbirds, but I don't know what a fieldfare is, and the redwings can get stuffed.

A great shortage of thrushes here in Scotland, fewer blackbirds as well, sparrows and starlings abound plus a few pretty birds on the peanuts, lots of magpies and pigeons.

We leave the last of the apples in November, and every January as regular as clockwork we have a mixed flock - mainly fieldfares, plus blackbirds, redwings, song thrushes and occasionally a mistle thrush - who spend the inside of a week clearing up every scrap of fallen fruit.
